(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) – The Director of the State Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) announced his retirement today. Dick Buehler will step down in mid-December. “This has not been an easy decision as I look back over four decades of coming to work in a career that I have loved,” said Buehler. “I must say that I would do it all over again if I had the chance.”

Buehler started his career in 1973 as a Boating Ranger and “Second Man” at East Canyon State Park. He moved over to FFSL the same year. His career there included law enforcement, wildfire investigation, deputy director and finally director and State Forester.

A nationwide search for Buehler’s replacement will commence immediately.

The Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands manages, sustain and strengthens Utah’s forest, rangelands, sovereign lands and watersheds for its citizens and visitors.
