The Red Storm improves to 6-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the PacWest after a pair of road victories this past weekend.
Academy of Art (2-9-1/1-5-1 PacWest) took the lead in the 10th minute off a DSU own goal. A crossing pass from Beth Barker bounced off the foot of a Red Storm defender and into the net. The own goal was the only shot past Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) in three shots faced.
"It's always disappointing to give up an own goal," DSU head coach Kacey Bingham said. "The girls really worked hard to give us a chance to win in overtime."
Midway in the second half, Wade took a shot from a well-placed Megan Marchbanks (Springville, UT/Springville) feed into the net after a quick deflection from an Urban Knight defender. It was Wade's second goal of the road trip.
After the score remained tied through the end of regulation and the first overtime period, Mason found her game-concluding opportunity in the 107th minute.
"We talked about making good decisions in overtime," Bingham added.
Off a short cross from Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta), the junior forward had a straight shot from just five yards out. Her good decision led to a strike that crept inside the far post for the Red Storm victory.
Dixie State outshot the Urban Knights 23 to 11 on the match. Mason led all players with seven shots. Marchbanks had four shots while Wade and Danica Pickett (Las Vegas, NV/Las Vegas) each added three.
The Red Storm returns home for a pair of PacWest matches over the next two Saturdays. On Oct. 19 at 10 a.m., DSU hosts Azusa Pacific and will have a week off to prepare for Point Loma on Oct. 26 at 9 a.m.
