(SACRAMENTO, Calif) – Senior forward Gabriela Trenton recorded a hat trick to help Sacramento State (7-6-2, 3-2-1 BSC) come away with a 4-0 win over Southern Utah (4-9-1, 1-3-1) in Big Sky Conference soccer play on Sunday afternoon. The Thunderbirds were held scoreless in back-to-back games for the first time this year and allowed their highest goal total since dropping a match at Arizona State by the same score back on September 15th.

The match was close early on as Trenton notched the Hornets opening goal on a set-piece in the 16th minute before the SUU defense quieted things down and held the score at 1-0 heading into the break. Sacramento State forward Jordyn Rolling then doubled the advantage with a shot in the 50th minute and Trenton tucked away two more down the stretch to set the final count at 4-0.

The Hornets posted a 15-10 advantage in the shot column and narrowly edged Southern Utah on corner kicks by a tally of 5-3.

Freshman goalkeeper Elyssa Hashimoto made five saves but allowed three goals before being replaced by Tessa Christensen in the 71st minute. Megan Mower and Alyssa Gomez each had a shot on goal for the Thunderbirds.

Southern Utah now gets set to play its final two home matches of the year in the upcoming week. The T-Birds host North Dakota this Friday at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Sunday meeting with Northern Colorado scheduled to get underway at one o’clock.
