    (ST. GEORGE, Utah) - Dixie State University, in partnership with the institution’s library and Sears Art Museum Gallery, the St. George Art Museum, and the City of St. George, continues its semi-annual Visiting Artist Lecture Series, featuring a panel lecture by the nationally-renowned tandem known as “The FIRM.” The event will take place on Thursday, October 17, at 4 p.m., in the Great Room at the DSU North Plaza Art Building, located at 55 South 900 East. Admission to the lecture is free and open to all DSU students, faculty and staff, and the community to attend.

    The new Visiting Artist Lecture Series, which is held once a semester, was created to benefit both members of the community and students studying art at DSU. “The FIRM” is made up of four talented ceramic artists, including DSU Associate Professor of Art Shane Christensen, along with Brian Jensen, Stephen Heywood and Michael T. Schmidt. In addition to the panel discussion, the group will host a two-day ceramic workshop on at the North Plaza Art Building on Oct. 16-17, from 9 a.m. -to- 4 p.m.

    All four members of “The FIRM” are MFA graduates of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and each is an active in ceramics and instruct at the university level. Jensen currently serves as an assistant professor of art at Utah Valley University; Heywood is an associate professor of ceramics at the University of North Florida; and Schmidt is a professor of art at Valdosta (GA) State University.
