(WASHINGTON, DC) – U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Finance Committee, today slammed Senate Democrats for stripping out common sense amendments passed by the House of Representatives to the government funding bill which would have delayed Obamacare for one year and repealed the health law’s $31 billion job-crushing medical device tax. The vote to strip a one-year delay of Obamacare and a full repeal of the medical device tax passed 54 to 46 party on a party-line vote.

“Speaker Boehner and the House of Representatives listened to the American people and did their job to fund the government, and they also listened to the American people and used common sense to delay Obamacare for a year and repeal the disastrous law’s $31 billion medical device tax,” Hatch said. “78 of my colleagues from both sides of the aisle joined me in voting earlier this year for an amendment I introduced to repeal the medical device tax, and Obamacare has been partially delayed, repealed, or changed 13 times. It seems like every day there’s another clear indicator that the law just isn’t ready for primetime. Senate Democrats had a chance to stand up for hard-working Americans today and lift Obamacare up off their backs, but instead they chose to play politics and inch closer to shutting down the government. Time and again, when President Obama and Senate Democrats have had an opportunity to lead they’ve shrunk from the challenge. The American people deserve better, and they deserve a reprieve from the President’s health law.”
