(MONMOUTH, OR) - Entering Saturday's game at McArthur Field, the Dixie State University football had not defeated the host Wolves of Western Oregon in six attempts.

Despite racking up 450 yards of total offense, the winless streak now sits at seven.

WOU quarterback Ryan Bergman passed for 417 yards and six touchdown strikes in leading the Wolves to their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference win, 51-32 over the Red Storm.

Dixie State (0-3, 0-2 GNAC) spotted the Wolves (1-2, 1-1) a 14-0 lead, but Griff Robles (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) and the Storm responded with a pair of touchdowns in the 2nd quarter. The senior QB found Joe Don Duncan (Corona, CA/Notre Dame) in the front corner of the end zone for a 17-yard strike and later hit Mitch Frei (Santa Clara, UT/Snow Canyon) on a slant a score of 10 yards. DSU trailed 14-12 after a missed PAT and failed two-point conversion.

Bergman had two of his three strikes to Antoine Wafer in the first half, including a 12-yard score late in the first half to give Western Oregon a 21-12 lead at half.

DSU's defense kept the opening eight minutes of the third quarter scoreless. Jamal Smith (Oxnard, CA/Oxnard) grabbed his first interception of the year on an underthrown Bergman pass on the first play from scrimmage. On the next WOU drive, Marquece Galway (Los Angeles, CA/George Washington Prep) ended a scoring threat by picking off Bergman in the end zone. On both occasions, DSU could not convert the turnover into points (missed FG, punt).

Western Oregon pulled away from DSU with three touchdowns in the span of four and half minutes in the third quarter. Dixie's only response was Duncan's second of three TD receptions to cap a four-play, 70-yard drive.

Down by 30 in the final period, the DSU offense sped up its tempo and found success. Duncan hauled in his third score with 4:56 left in the game. The preseason All-American had a career-high 13 receptions for 111 yards.

Later in the quarter, Myles Burton (Berkeley, CA/Rodriguez) blasted right through the middle for four yards and a score.

Robles attempted 59 passes, connecting on 39 for 336 yards and four TDs. He was picked once and sacked twice. The QB also added 37 yards on the ground.

Frei joined Duncan with 100 yards on 10 catches. The duo was the first DSU group to notch 100 or more receiving yards in a game since the 2011 game at Western Oregon. Duncan, as a junior, had 155 yards while Darren Carter added 115 in the Storm's 40-28 loss to WOU.

Joel Davis (Natchez, MS/Natchez) led the rushing attack with 49 yards on 13 carries. The trio of Davis, Burton and Robles combined to post 114 yards on the ground, the most for Dixie State this year.

Defensively, Jake Duncan (Corona, CA/Notre Dame) once again led the troops with 10 tackles. Austen Richards (Ogden, UT/Bonneville) followed with seven tackles and one forced fumble. Tim Ehinger (Torrance, CA/West Torrance) added two sacks from the defensive line.

GNAC play continues next Saturday at Humboldt State. The Jacks and the Red Storm will sport identical 0-3,0-2 GNAC marks when the face off from the Redwood Bowl at 6:30 p.m.
