Love is a Republican running for U.S. House of Representatives in Utah’s 4th Congressional district. She was most recently the mayor of Saratoga Springs and was the Republican nominee in the 2012 Congressional race. She came within 768 votes of winning that election against Jim Matheson. Love is known for her conservative positions on limited government, increased citizen liberties and a return to personal responsibility.
Love has a compelling personal story. Her parents fled the horrors of Haiti under dictatorship rule, determined to give their children a stable life free from fear. They immigrated to the U.S., where Mia was born. Her father took extra janitorial jobs for years to help pay for his children’s education. On the day Love began college, her father told her, “Your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back. If elected, Love would be the first black Republican woman to serve in the House.
