(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) – In honor of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and as a tribute to the heroes who came to their country’s aid, Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered all flags on state-owned facilities to be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.

Under two separate acts of Congress, Sept. 11 is designated as Patriot Day and as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. The Governor is currently in Washington, D.C., and will be traveling to New York City later in the day. Tomorrow, he will visit Ground Zero and the memorial site.

The Governor encourages all Utahns to take advantage of this day to remember those who serve this country and those who have died protecting our freedoms. The best thing one can do to honor this day is to serve someone in need, the Governor said.
