Cantu, a junior from East Los Angeles, Calif. (East Los Angeles College/Schurr HS) completed 15-of-16 pass attempts for 136 yards and four touchdowns in the game. His efforts gave him a quarterback efficiency rating of 247.65.
In addition to Cantu’s honor, punter Brock Miller, linebacker Matt Holley and safety Miles Killebrew each earned honor roll recognition. Holley also earned honor roll mention last week.
Miller, a senior from Encinas, Calif. (Santa Fe Christian HS) averaged 48 yards per punt and pinned the Skyhawks inside the 20 twice, including once on the two. Holley, a junior from Las Vegas, Nev. (Centennial HS) had three tackles, all for losses, forced a fumble and recovered two more and scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery. Killebrew, a sophomore from Henderson, Nev. (Foothill HS) also scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery, an 89-yarder which was the second-longest in SUU history, and had three solo tackles in the game.
Cantu’s award gives the Thunderbirds two national players of the week in as many weeks, as placekicker Colton Cook earned the award last week for his performance at South Alabama.
