(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) - The Southern Baptist Convention has joined forces with the American Red Cross to stage a mobile feeding kitchen and to prepare meals for victims of the Rockport wildfire and local first responders.

“A hot meal can make such a difference to people returning to their neighborhood for the first time following a major disaster,” said “Heidi Ruster, CEO, American Red Cross Utah Region. “We’ve served more than 2,600 meals and snacks to evacuees so far, and now that our Southern Baptist Convention partners have been activated, we’ll be able to provide food and comfort to people even more quickly and efficiently.”

The Southern Baptist Convention mobile kitchen will be located at the Multi Agency Resource Center (MARC) at 31000 Old Lincoln Highway in Wanship, UT.

Lunch will be served there at 12:30 p.m. followed by an evening meal at 6 p.m. Meals will be distributed on the same schedule from a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) stationed near the entrance to Rockport Estates.

In addition to assisting with serving meals at the MARC location, Red Cross volunteers will continue to meet individually there with Rockport wildfire victims to assess immediate emergency needs and to assist with emotional support and long term recovery planning. Those needing additional assistance may phone (801) 323-7000.
