(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) - Following disclosure that Rep. V. Lowry Snow (R - St. George), the newly-appointed chair of the special House committee investigating John Swallow, has potential conflicts of interest in the case resulting from his representation of Jeremy Johnson and his associates in several lawsuits, Utah Democratic Party Chair Jim Dabakis issued the following statement:

“It's frankly outrageous that there are ethical issues arising within this committee just 24 hours after it was named. This is exactly what happens when one party picks the entire committee, picks the chair, picks the scope of the investigation, picks the witnesses and decides when the committee will be closed to the public."

“The committee should have been half Democratic and half Republican, following the precedent of all other legislative ethics panels. Speaker Lockhart, to regain the trust and faith of the public, and in light of these damaging revelations, should appoint a Democrat to chair the committee.”
