The magazine tabbed Friend as their “eighth inning man (also a starter)” in an all-star quality, seven-man fantasy rotation. A native of Las Vegas, Friend closed the 2013 regular season with a 6-1 record and a solid 2.08 ERA, the best mark of those honored on the list. He held opponents to a .214 batting average in 10 appearances.
Not included in the totals was a quality start against Chico State in the 2013 NCAA West Baseball Regional. Friend tossed 6.2 innings of one-run, six hit baseball in a tough 1-0 loss to the Wildcats eliminating the Red Storm from the postseason.
In previous accolades, Friend was named to the Pacific West Conference Third Team.
