  • Governor Orders Flags to be Lowered to Honor Fallen Soldier

    (SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) – Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered on July 15, 2013 to honor First Sergeant Tracy L. Stapley who died July 3, 2013, in Doha, Qatar. The lowering of the Flags will be done in conjunction with the memorial services being held that day.

    Governor Herbert issued the following statement:

    On behalf of all Utahns, Jeanette and I offer our heartfelt condolences to the family members and friends of First Sergeant Tracy L. Stapley. We mourn with you, and pray you find peace and comfort during this time of sadness. I am always humbled by, and grateful for, our brave men and women who have lived and died for the cause of freedom.

    The flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on July 15, 2013.
