    (ST. GEORGE, Utah) – Odean Barnum passed away peacefully while visiting a grandson in South Jordan, Utah. He was 86 years old.

    He was born July 8, 1926, in St George, Utah, to Orange Decatur Barnum and Angie Bell Hughes and raised in Mesquite, Nevada. During World War II, he served with the U. S. Army in the Philippines. There he received a Purple Heart.

    Odean married Roberta Blake in the St George LDS Temple on March 3, 1948. They lived in Blue Diamond, Nevada for 14 years then moved to Las Vegas where they lived 28 years. During these 42 years, he worked at Blue Diamond Gypsum plant as a laborer, foreman, and superintendent.

    He served as a bishop of the LDS 28th Ward in Las Vegas prior to retiring to St George, Utah. He loved serving in the temple, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

    Odean's wife Roberta preceded him in death. He is survived by his three sons: Lawrence Dean (Kathleen) Barnum of St George, Utah, David Elwin (Wendy) Barnum of Las Vegas, Nevada, James Douglas (Annette) Barnum of Twin Falls, Idaho, and his brothers Jim (Marketta) Barnum of Mesquite, Nevada, Thyrel "Gabby" (Nora) Barnum of Las Vegas, Nevada, Aschel Barnum and sister Roxie Barnum Bearden of Mesquite, Nevada. Odean has 14 grandchildren and 31great-grandchildren.

    Viewing will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St George Blvd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the St George LDS 5th Ward (Flood Street Chapel), 85 South 400 East, St George, Utah with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the St George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
