  • Wildfire Burning Southeast of Minersville

    (MINERSVILLE, Utah) - Color Country interagency resources are responding to a lightning caused fire, burning approximately three miles south east of Minersville, Utah. One cabin is currently threatened. Initial reports from resources on scene indicate the fire is 75 acres and growing. Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATS) are working the fire to support ground crews. The fire is visible from Cedar City and all surrounding roads. The Maple Springs Road is closed to the general public.

    Start Date: Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

    Location: Located three miles south east of Minersville, in Beaver County, Utah.

    Jurisdiction: Bureau of Land Management, Color Country District and possibly Utah State Lands.

    Fire Size: Estimated 75 acres and growing. (Note: one acre is equivalent to one football field).

    Cause: Lightning.

    Fire Behavior: Torching, running, and spotting fire behavior is observed.

    Closures: Maple Springs Road is closed to the general public.

    Structures: One cabin is currently threatened.

    Percent Contained: 0%

    Fuels: Pinyon and Juniper, Cheatgrass and Brush.

    Fire Crews/Resources: 2 Fire Engines, 2 Water Tenders, 2 Hand Crews, 1 Air Attack Platform, 3 Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATS), and Various Overhead. Approximately 40 personnel are currently assigned to the fire. Additional resources are being dispatched.

    Evacuations: No evacuations are currently in effect.

    Injuries: No injuries have been reported.
