  • Lightning Ignites 150 Acre Wildfire North of Cedar City, Utah

    (IRON COUNTY, Utah) - Firefighters are making good progress as the fire activity lessened throughout the night. Crews are taking advantage of the higher relative humidity and reduced wind conditions this morning, before changing weather conditions can negatively influence fire behavior today.

    Start Date: Friday, June 28, 2013 at 3:07 p.m.

    Location: Located 20 miles north of Cedar City, Utah in Iron County.

    Jurisdiction: Color Country District, Bureau of Land Management.

    Fire Size: Approximately 150 acres. (Note: one acre is equivalent to one football field).

    Cause: Lightning.

    Fire Behavior: Creeping and smoldering with minimal fire behavior.

    Closures: No closures in effect

    Structures: No structures threatened.

    Percent Contained: 25%

    Fuels: Pinyon and Juniper, Cheatgrass and Brush.

    Fire Crews/Resources: 6 Fire Engines, 1 Hand Crew, 1 Squad, 1 Air Attack Platform, and Various Overhead. Approximately 60 personnel are currently assigned to the fire.

    Evacuations: No evacuations are currently in effect.

    Injuries: No injuries have been reported.
