(MESQUITE, Nev) - Mesquite Engine 11 with Rescue 11 and Engine 31 responded to a reported brush fire in the vacant lot at 770 Second South at 9:12 Sunday evening. Units arrived to find active fire in grass approximately 50’ long x 35’ wide. Crews were able to knock the fire down within 3 minutes of arrival utilizing handlines and overhauled the area to prevent re-ignition. Witnesses reported seeing multiple males running from the area at the time the fire started. The quick response of Mesquite Police enabled those subjects to be quickly detained until the arrival of the Mesquite Fire Investigator (Deputy Fire Chief Rick Resnick) for questioning. Investigation of the fire area revealed no obvious evidence of an intentional fire and no arrests have been made although the investigation is ongoing.
