(MESQUITE, Nev) - The Mesquite Police Department would like to thank Mesquite Fire & Rescue, the Department of Leisure Services, Virgin Valley High School (VVHS) staff, along with the many individuals and businesses whose donation of time, money and services helped make Grad Night 2013 a success.

Grad Night marks the beginning of the 100 deadliest days of summer for teens. "As part of our commitment to the safety of the youth of this community, the Mesquite Police Department has hosted Grad Night for several years to provide a safe place for students to celebrate their graduation from high school," said Captain Scott Taylor.

Out of the 127 graduating seniors, 75 attended grad night along with 20 friends. “Locked in” the Rec Center from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. students swam, watched movies and played volleyball. Chief Tanner and VVHS Principal Cliff Hughes joined officers and school staff in a highly competitive game of basketball against the graduates.

Mesa View Regional Hospital donated BBQ Ribs; Dominos, Bellas, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, and Playoffs delivered pizza. Los Lupes provided chips and salsa and the Eureka and Stateline Casinos, along with Smith Food and Drugs, provided drinks. The ice cream machine donated by Ace Hardware churned out ice cream served up by the Nevada Community Partnership Coalition.

Grad Night always ends with the highly anticipated raffle prize drawing. Graduates were surprised to find notebooks, tablets, laptops and cameras, which were purchased with monetary donations, among this year’s raffle prizes. Local businesses generously donated enough gift cards, local services, and coupons so that every senior that attended received a prize.

Funds to host the event, money to purchase prizes and raffle items were generously provided by community members and businesses (in no particular order):
