    (Cedar City, UT) - Alexander Peter Spevak, passed away at the age of 95 on July 4, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 16, 1917 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Theresa Halavacs Spevak. He attended school until the 8th grade. He then had to leave school to help provide for his family, due to the untimely death of his father.

    He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1933 which eventually brought him to Southern Utah. He met Maxine Snow of St. George, Utah. They married on May 3, 1940 in Parowan, Utah and were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on January 30, 1965.

    He drove truck for Garrett Freightlines for 40 years. He drove over 4 million miles safely throughout his career. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had various callings. He was a loving husband to his wife and a loving father to his children and grandchildren. He loved to work in his yard and tend to his garden. He was an avid baseball fan, and he loved the Utah Jazz.

    He is survived by his loving wife Maxine of 72 years and four children, Lana (Gene) Smith, Cedar City; John (Claudine), Cedar City: Layne (Kris), Hurricane; and Richard (Julie); Cedar City. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joseph (infant), Joseph, John, Michael and Albert; sisters Mary Ann, Margaret, Irene and Elizabeth.

    The family would like to give a special thanks to Iron County Home Health, Hospice and everyone else that helped with compassionate service. The children would also like to give a special thanks to their mother for her dedicated service to their father.

    Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Cedar City 9th Ward Chapel, 256 South 900 West. A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West. And on Monday, July 9, 2012 from 9:30-10:30 am at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West, Cedar City, Utah - (435) 586-4040.
